Batesland South Dakota is situated in the heart of the South Dakota's winter wheat area. The town was named after C.A. Bates, who surveyed this portion of the Indian reservation.
Thousands of acres of rich fertile soil extend in all directions making this the heart of the South Dakota winter wheat area. Settlement is still continuing even today by new comers from nearly every state. The proud and friendly citizens of Batesland are quick to say welcome and there is room for everyone.
Close to Batesland is a gravel road that turns off to the Wounded Knee Massacre Site Memorial. Take a few minutes out of your schedule to see this memorial and reflect on a terrible time in history for the United States 7th Calvary and Col. Forsythe.
