Beresford, South Dakota was originally named Paris in 1873, but later changed to Beresford when the railroad was built in 1884. The name was changed to honor Lord Charles Beresford of England, a financier of the railroad. It is in this fertile area of the state that the early settlers first made their homes. Beresford is in the heart of the corn-raising section of South Dakota. It is also home to many of South Dakota’s game bird populations.
