Central City, South Dakota is hard to recognize as it lies between Deadwood and Lead. During the gold rush in 1877 Central City was founded. The name came about as it was centrally located between the two larger cities. During the gold rush days, Central City was a bustling community. 

Today Central City is basically a residential town that houses the workers from Deadwood and Lead.
