Colman, South Dakota is a town of many names. Colman was founded in 1880 and named Sankey. Later Sankey was changed to Allentown, but there was another Allentown in the Dakota Territory. The name was then changed to Colman in honor of a local business firm, the Colman Lumber Company.
Today Colman, South Dakota is a small agricultural town with several business services available for the Interstate 29 traveler.
