Faulkton, South Dakota was named for Andrew J. Faulk, an early governor of the Dakota Territory. Faulkton, SD was platted in 1886 and like many early towns was engaged in a county seat fight. Faulkton finally became the permanent county seat with the arrival of the railroad in 1886.
Today, Faulkton is the county seat of Faulk County and has maintained a steady business population over the years. Faulk County is considered part of South Dakota's prime pheasant hunting country.
