
Goodwin, South Dakota was another town given life to by the railroad when they extended their lines in 1878. Goodwin received its name in honor of a railroad worker who had been killed while the tracks were being laid. This South Dakota town lies within some of the states richest farming area. Goodwin is a small farming community consisting of the usual service stations, grain elevator, and churches. There are a few business places that cater mainly to the farming community but the close proximity to a larger town hampers any real growth.
