Harrold, South Dakota was settled in 1881 with the coming of the railroad. In one month Harrold, SD grew to a population of 260 and continued to slowly grow until the railroad closed its lines down.
Today Harrold, SD has less than 200 populations due in part to the accessibility by car and paved roads for people to shop, work, and live in larger towns.
The local café is well worth the time to stop, rest, and eat at a real home cooking restaurant. The South Dakota state bird, Ringneck pheasant, reigns King in these parts too. The pheasant hunting is some of the best to be had.
