Kadoka, South Dakota was founded in 1906 when the Milwaukee railroad was extended from Chamberlain to the Black Hills. The name Kadoka is derived from the Indian word meaning "hole in the wall". Kadoka, South Dakota was thus named because of it's proximity to the rim of the South Dakota Badlands.

Kadoka, South Dakota has numerous motels, restaurants, convenience stores and even a petrified garden attraction to fascinate young and old. Just southwest of Kadoka is a lookout vantage point called Kadoka Point, from which the Badlands can be viewed with their many shapes and colors. You certainly want to make a tour of the Badlands on your way out to the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore. The Badlands landscape has been compared to pictures of the moon's surface.
