Mud Butte, South Dakota is a town that is fighting to stay off the ghost town list with a population of a few families still actually within the town. Founded in the homesteading days and named after the near-by butte, it was once a busy center for the homesteader trade but today, Mud Butte has a few houses, a church, and a service station with a couple of pumps.
