
North Sioux City, South Dakota is the first town as you enter into South Dakota on I-29 from the Iowa border. South Dakotas early history starts here with the exploration of the Missouri River by fur trappers. The South Dakota sections of the Lewis & Clark Trail also starts in North Sioux City and follows the Missouri River into North Dakota.
Today the Missouri River provides North Sioux City, South Dakota with the reputation of being the Las Vegas of the Sioux land area. There are more than a dozen casinos along the river bank along with fabulous hotels and restaurants.
For the history buffs you will want to visit the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve. Here you can see one of the last natural segments of the Missouri River at the Nature Preserve.

Adams Homestead Celebration
Visit the Adams Homestead along the Missouri River and learn about the lives of early settlers. Walk the park`s trails and explore the beautiful area around the homestead. Events include homestead tours, pioneer crafts, music, hikes, storytelling, and more. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve.
