Presho, South Dakota was settled in 1905 and named after an early settler, J.S. Presho. In the days of large cattle drives, Presho was known as the bedding down place for extensive round-ups. Medicine Creek is located close by, providing ample water and feed for the cattle. In the early 1900s Presho was considered one of the largest hay-baling and shipping points in the United States.
Today, Presho, South Dakota still caters to the cattle market with a large livestock auction barn. Travelers can enjoy the several restaurants, motels, convenience stores and historical museum in this small but thriving town. Like so many of the other small towns in the area, Preshos economy grows each fall with the onset of pheasant hunting season.
