The railroad came through in 1890 and the town was named Pringle, in honor of W.H. Pringle, a rancher who owned the water rights. The first name associated with the town was Rocks because of the many out-jutting rocks nearby. Today, Pringle SD is a small but beautiful town nestled in the heart of the Black Hills. The main income is from the tourist trade.
