
Valley Springs, South Dakota was settled in 1872 by early Scandinavians migrating from Minnesota and Wisconsin. Valley Springs, SD was named from the many springs that were found along Beaver Creek on the north side of the town.
At one time Valley Springs, SD was the largest town in the area with the first railroad station in Minnehaha County. Unfortunately Valley Springs was almost lost to a large devastating fire that destroyed numerous businesses establishments. Valley Springs never managed to rebuild from that early tragedy.
Today, Valley Springs, SD is a sleepy little village that maintains its small population but also slowly growing each year as a bedroom community to Sioux Falls large growth pattern.
