Walker, South Dakota was created by the railroad as it moved across the state, and like so many other small towns in South Dakota, died when the railroad closed.

Walker was named for the owner of the W.I. Walker ranch, a large cattle ranch that used this railroad station as its shipping point.

Today the only thing left of Walker is a few closed buildings and memories of better times.
