A variety of craft booths set up at the grade school gym. Features vendors from across the state with everything from Barbie clothes, to Watkins products, to weather vanes, to home-canned pickles. There is also a bake sale.

Christmas in the Cottage

Christmas program incorporating vocal and instrumental music, poetry, readers` theater, pantomime or a play. Hostesses in Elizabethan attire serve guests traditional Christmas fare with tea or wassail. Held at the Anne Hathaway Cottage. This event is held every other year. www.shakespearegarden.org
Wessington Springs, South Dakota was founded in 1876 and was named Wessington after the man that discovered the springs in the area. The post office changed the name in 1882 to Elmer. The towns people did not accept that name and petitioned to have it changed to Wessington Springs for the springs that flow from the Wessington Hills near by.
Wessington Springs history is rich in Native American lore, fur trappers and immigrant homesteaders. There is even a Civil War hero buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Look for the signs in the cemetery.
Today Wessington Springs is the county seat of Jerauld County and continues to serve the surrounding farming community. There are several historical registry buildings and many sights to be seen. So be sure to stop and spend a few hours before continuing on to your destination.
Attention Hunters! The Ringneck Pheasant population is alive and well in this area, with some of the best hunting guides and lodges in the area.
